Toledo, Ohio - Senior Sidnay Huck and junior Kokoro Chishaki were recognized as the Mid-American Conference women's tennis Doubles Team of the Week, the league office announced today.
"These two played lights out against BGSU and did a great job handling the pressure against Ball State," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "They definitely deserve this recognition."
Huck and Chishaki went 2-0 in the No. 1 spot over the weekend after winning competitions against Bowling Green and Ball State. The duo played a perfect 6-0 match on Friday against Bowling Green's Paula Comella and Marharita Tavpash, and was the first doubles team off the courts. Their win clinched the doubles point and helped Toledo win 5-2 over the Falcons.
In Sunday's match against Ball State, the doubles point came down to Huck and Chishaki. The Rockets had lost in No. 3 doubles, but tied it up after winning the No. 2 match. The pair played a close 7-5 match to beat Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington, and again clinch the doubles point for Toledo. UT then went on to win 5-2 over the Cardinals. Huck and Chishaki have won their last three doubles matches, are now 9-7 on the year, and are a major contributing factor to Toledo's 13-5 (3-2 MAC) record.
Huck, Chishaki and the rest of the Rockets squad return to action on Friday when UT heads to Eastern Michigan for a 1:00 p.m. match. Toledo returns home on Sunday to host Western Michigan at 1:00 p.m. on the UT varsity tennis courts.
