Williams Shines in Michigan; Sets New Conference Record

Toledo, Ohio - Toledo's women's track and field team wrapped up competition on Friday at the Silverston Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. Six Rockets traveled to the Wolverines' campus in the final competition prior to the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships.

"Today was a very good tune-up meet before the MAC Championships for some of our student-athletes," assistant coach Adrian Ghioroaie said following the meet. "Shanice Williams looked very good. She's close to putting an ideal race together. She broke her own personal best and took the MAC lead in the 60-meter today. As of now, she's the fastest in the conference."

Williams finished the 60-meter race in 7.44, surpassing her previous time of 7.66, and is now at the top of the MAC this season according to TFRRS.

Atalia Da Silva also enjoyed a successful meet today, finishing third in the high jump with a height of 1.65-meters. Ghioroaie said that the coaching staff expects her to be the top finisher at the conference championships. Da Silva is the top high-jumper for Toledo and holds this season's team record at 1.68-meters.

The Rockets were also represented by Nautica Hill and Tori Thompson who competed in the 200-meter race. Hill finished seventh with a time of 25.20, while Thompson was right behind in eighth with a time of 25.24.

Chloee Kleespis and Sally Frank each competed in the shot put, placing 13th and 16th respectively. Kleespis threw for 12.48 meters while Frank followed with 11.94 meters.

Up next for the Rockets is the 2018 MAC Championships on Feb. 23-24 in Bowling Green, Ohio
