Pimchanok Kawil Ties for Second at Ball State's Cardinal Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. – Junior Pimchanok Kawil matched her career high by tying for second place and Toledo finished fourth in its season-opening tournament on Tuesday at Ball State's Cardinal Classic. Kawil carded an even-par 216 (71-71-74) at the par-72, 6,074-yard Players Club to finish in a three-way tie for second, trailing only Akron's Jacinta Pikunas' six-under par 210 (66-72-72).

The Rockets dropped one spot in the team standings in the final round and posted a 22-over par 886 (291-289-306). Indianapolis captured the team title at one-under par 863 (283-286-294).

"We played great yesterday but today was disappointing and that happens sometimes in golf," Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. "I'm happy that Pimchanok finished second and Saranlak eighth but we were just mediocre for the most part today. We're going to need to rebound and learn from our mistakes before we head to Michigan State this weekend."

Joining Kawil in the tournament's Top 10 was sophomore Saranlak Tumfong, who tied for eighth place at four-over par 220 (72-72-76). Junior Pinyada Kuvanun was one shot behind Tumfong, tying for 12th place at five-over par 221 (72-72-77).

Rounding out the Rocket lineup were sophomore Thunpijja Sukkasem (76-74-79=229) and junior Hannah Kochendoerfer (76-77-79=232) tied for 45th and 53rd place, respectively. Also competing as an individual was sophomore Donchanok Toburint (T-70th/83-74-82=239).

Toledo returns to action this weekend when it travels to East Lansing, Mich. to compete in Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 23-24.
