Toledo to Host 13th-Annual Inverness Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo will host the 13th-annual Inverness Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 18-19 at the renowned Inverness Club. The 54-hole tournament will be played on a par-71, 7,323-yard layout. The event will begin with 36 holes on Monday (8:30 a.m. shotgun start) followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday (9:00 a.m. shotgun start).

UT will entertain a 13-team field that includes Bowling Green, UCLA, Fresno State, Mercer, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Ohio State, Saint Mary's (CA) and Washington.

"We are thrilled to be able to host so many outstanding programs at the Inverness Intercollegiate this year," Roope said. "The tradition for excellence at this event will continue with teams like UCLA, Washington, Ohio State, Michigan, and a host of others joining us to make this one of the best fields we see all year. We cannot express our gratitude enough to the members at the Inverness Club and the members of the Toledo golf community who have made this event possible."

Toledo opened the season last weekend with a solid seventh-place showing at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate. Sophomore Joe Bryce led the Rockets by tying for a career-best 11th place with a 54-hole total of eight-over par 221 (74-73-74). The Bathgate, Scotland native tied for fifth in the field in par-three scoring at even-par and was three-under par on par-five holes.

Joining Bryce in the lineup at Wolf Run were sophomore Thomas Thurloway (T-37th/75-81-73=229), junior Duncan McNeill (T-45th/78-75-79=232), freshman Dylan Van Fossen (T-50th/79-72-82=233) and senior Stephen Watts (T-59th/80-77-78=235).

Last fall, Toledo finished in 10th place in the Inverness Intercollegiate with a team score of 35-over par 887 (295-295-297). The Rockets were paced by Thurloway, who tied for 16th place at two-over par 215 (71-72-72).

Auburn captured the team championship after shooting a tournament-record nine-under par 843 (280-281-282), three strokes in front of runner-up Duke at six-under par 846 (277-281-288). The Tigers placed three players in the top four to eclipse the tourney's lowest 54-hole score by a whopping 19 shots, previously held by Florida State (862) in 2007.

Individually, Michigan's Nick Carlson (69-73-67) and Duke's Jake Shuman (70-71-68) shared medalist honors at four-under par 209.
