BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Sophomore
Dismas Koech and senior
Alberto Chelimo each finished in the top five positions in the Mel Brodt Invitational on a windy Friday evening in Bowling Green.
Dismas Koech completed the 5K course in 15:35.1 to take second place behind BGSU's Noah Schaub. Koech crossed the finish line five seconds after the leader to pace the Rockets.Â
Chelimo clocked in with a 15:44.9 to claim fourth place in the event. Chelimo was edged out at the line by four-tenths of a second for the third position.
"Overall, I'm pleased with the way the men's team ran," said Toledo head coach
Linh Nguyen. "We're in the middle of our highest volume and hardest training, so our guys were running on tired legs. It was very windy and the course was spread out which made things tough, but I think it's a good start."
Senior
Titus Koech was the third UT runner to finish, crossing the line in 15:54.6 for sixth place.
Rounding out the scoring for the Midnight Blue and Gold was senior
Stalline Kurgat in eighth place (16:07.3) and
Jacob Wistinghausen in the 10th spot (16:08.6).
The Rockets return to competition on Friday, Sept. 8 at the ISU Country Financial Invitational in Normal, Ill.
