TOLEDO, Ohio - The 2017 installment of the Toledo women's soccer team has arrived on campus and started practice in preparation of the upcoming fall season. The team's schedule will include conditioning, practice, leadership meetings and a social media seminar before its exhibition match at Michigan State on Aug. 10.
Third-year head coach TJ Buchholz and his staff are looking forward to the start of the season and feel that the program is in a great position to succeed.
"Going into year three we're in a good spot within our program," said Buchholz. "Culturally we have our players on the same page and feel good going into our third year."
Last season, the Rockets compiled an 8-10-1 with a 3-7-1 mark in the Mid-American Conference. Toledo missed the postseason MAC Tournament but looks to return to the bracket in the new campaign.
The Rockets will be led by senior Isa Echeverri and redshirt juniors Regan Price and Hannah Scafaria, who were named the team's tri-captains prior to the season.
"Leadership is very important to us," continued Buchholz. "Our players have a hand in deciding who our leaders are based on what they see on and off the field and I think all three will be excellent leaders."
Toledo kicks off the season on the road at Detroit Mercy on Aug. 18 before returning for the home opener against Canisius on Aug. 20 at Scott Park. The Rockets' next four matches are on the road, including a pair in California, with a home contest against Notre Dame looming on Sept. 10.
