Toledo, Ohio – Toledo senior quarterback Logan Woodside (Frankfort, Ky.) was named to the official Watch List for the 2017 Manning Award today. The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
Â
It is the fourth preseason watch list that has included Woodside. He was previously named to the official watch lists for the Maxwell Award, which is given to the nation's player of the year; the Davey O'Brien Award, which honors the nation's top quarterback; and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which honors the top quarterback from all divisions for his accomplishments both on and off the field.
Â
Woodside shattered nearly every Toledo passing record in the books in 2016. He led the nation with 45 touchdown passes, 16 more than the previous best in Rocket history. He connected on 69.1 percent of his passes for 4,129 yards, an average of more than 317 yards per contest and another school record. He earned first-team All-MAC honors and was named a contender for the Heisman Trophy by the Heisman Trophy Trust. He graduated with a 3.4 grade point average in marketing last December, and is currently working on his MBA.
Â
The list of 10 finalists for the Manning Award will be released on Thursday, November 30. The winner will be announced in the week following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
The Rockets open their season at home vs. Elon on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7:00 p.m. For ticket information, go online or call 419-530-GOLD (4653).
