ROME, Italy – The Toledo men's basketball program spent its first day in Europe on Thursday taking in the sights with a walking tour that included several historical spots in Italy's capital city.
The Rockets arrived in Rome at approximately Noon local time following an overnight flight and began experiencing the Italian cultural immediately after checking into their hotel.
"We had a long day of travel to get here and it's been well worth it," Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "Our guys got their first taste of a different culture and will have memories that will last their lifetime."
The team visited the Pantheon (a Roman temple originally built in approximately 20 BC), the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps (a monumental stairway of 135 steps built in the 1720s), before enjoying an Italian dinner to wrap up the day.
"When we landed in Rome we felt dead but once we started walking around and seeing how beautiful everything is our excitement grew," sophomore guard Justin Roberts said. "I think we're becoming a lot closer as a team, and I can't wait to see even more great things the rest of our trip."
The Rockets will visit the ancient Colosseum and Forum on Friday morning before playing the first of two back-to-back contests vs. KK Kolubara later in evening.
