TOLEDO, OH — Toledo has finalized its 2017-18 women's golf schedule, Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth announced on Tuesday. The Rockets will participate in 11 tournaments in total, highlighted by a trip to Hawaii for the Rainbow Wahine Invitational to conclude the fall portion of its schedule.
"Our schedule is definitely tougher this year than last season and that's by design with our entire team returning," said Hollingsworth, who will be entering her 15th year at the Rockets' helm. "I want to see what we can do against a higher level of competition, and that will help prepare us for what we face at the Mid-American Conference Championships. We're also going to be playing nine golf courses that our team hasn't seen before and traveling to several different parts of the country for the first time. That's something I've always tried to do for our student-athletes, because I think it's important for them to learn about the different ways of life around the United States."
Toledo will open its season for a second straight year at Ball State's Cardinal Classic (Sept. 18-19) before competing in Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 23-24). The Rockets will then travel to Kentucky for their next two events at Kentucky's Bettie Lou Evans Invitational (Oct. 6-8) and Louisville's Cardinal Cup (Oct. 21-22). UT will conclude its fall at Hawaii's Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 31-Nov. 1).
Toledo will tee off its spring campaign with a pair of tournaments in back-to-back weeks in February. The Rockets will visit Boulder City, Nev. for the Battle at Boulder Creek (Feb. 12-13) before heading to Sorrento, Fla. for Morehead State's Citrus Challenge (Feb. 18-20). UT returns to the Sunshine State to open its spring break at North Florida's UNF Collegiate (March 5-6) in Jacksonville. The Midnight Blue and Gold will then travel to Mesa, Ariz. for Notre Dame's Clover Cup (March 16-18), followed by a trip to Mt. Pleasant, S.C. for the Charleston Invitational (April 2-3). UT will receive its final tuneup for the league title at Ohio State's Lady Buckeye Invitational (April 14-15). The 2018 MAC Championships will be hosted by Northern Illinois and be held on April 20-22 at Naperville (Ill.) Country Club.
Toledo returns its entire roster in 2017-18, with juniors Pinyada Kuvanun and Pimchanok Kawil leading the Rockets last year with 74.9 and 75.6 stroke averages, respectively. UT will also return sophomore Saranlak Tumfong (77.0), senior Napaphan Phongpaiboon (77.2), junior Natcha Daengpiem (78.1), sophomore Thunpijja Sukkasem (79.9), junior Hannah Kochendoerfer (80.4) and sophomore Donchanok Toburint (82.1).
