TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo Football program is encouraging kids to read and learn all summer long with its Rocket Reading Program. Completion of the program will reward participants with a free ticket to a home football game for the upcoming season.
Â
Children in kindergarten through third grade are required to read 12 books, while fourth-through-eighth-graders must read 15 books. Each participant will receive a pledge form, a Rocket Reading journal and a recommended book list at the start of the program.
Â
If participants read their minimum required number of books between May 17 and Nov. 23, 2017, they will receive a certificate of completion and one (1) free non-premium ticket to a Toledo football game with the purchase of an additional adult ticket. Rocket Reading journals can be turned into the UT Athletic Ticket Office in Savage Arena any time before the Nov. 23 deadline.
Â
In addition, participants who read their minimum required number of books by Aug. 21 will receive special on-field recognition at Toledo's home opening game vs. Elon on Thursday, Aug. 31. If participants reach their reading goal between Aug. 22 and Nov. 13, they will receive a special on-field recognition at Toledo's game vs. Western Michigan on Friday, Nov. 25.
Â
Participants who meet the Aug. 21 or Nov. 13 deadline will receive one (1) free ticket to the game in which they will be recognized in addition to the one (1) free ticket they receive through the completion of the program.
Â
This summer, Toledo Athletics want to challenge you to take part in the Rocket Football Reading Program. We encourage you to share this with other teachers and students to take part in. Open up your books and start reading, and we'll see you at the game!Â
