
Four Rockets Qualify for NCAA East Regionals

TOLEDO, Ohio - Four student-athletes from the Toledo women's track and field team have qualified for the NCAA East Regional on Thursday-Saturday, May 25-27 in Lexington, Ky. The quartet will have the chance to advance to the NCAA Championships with a top 12 finish in their respective events.
Junior Joan Jepkirui qualified in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:28.53 in the 51st-annual Hillsdale GINA Relays. Jepkirui finished fourth in the event and was the 56th fastest time in the region.
Freshman Caroline Lambert will compete in the 10,000-meter run in which she qualified with a mark of 34:21.50 at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. Lambert took 14th place in the race, but her time translated to the 35th best time in the East Region.
Senior Madeline Pacella won the high jump at the BGSU Dual Meet with a leap of 1.75 meters. The winning height was good for the 24th spot in the region and locked in a qualifying spot.Â
The NCAA East Regional takes the top 48 student-athletes in each individual event. Senior Dandadeua da Silva had the 52nd best time in the 400-meter hurdles and was granted a qualifying position due to medal scratches. Da Silva ran her best time in the event, a 59.69, in the Mid-American Conference Championship last week.Â
