TOLEDO, Ohio -
Joan Jepkirui finished third and
Jennifer Lichter took fourth in the women's 10,000-meter run to net 11 points for the Rockets in the opening day of the Mid-American Conference Championship on Thursday in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Jepkirui crossed the finish line in a time of 34:53.53 to earn six points for the Midnight Blue & Gold. Lichter completed the race about 15 seconds later, earning five points for a time of 35:18.20.
Delainey Phelps gave a valiant effort but came up just short of placing in the points, finishing 10th in a time of 36:38.35.
Anna Bellman also placed 10th in the women's javelin throw with a mark of 37.55 meters.
After the first day of competition, Toledo finds itself in fourth place behind Bowling Green, Miami and Eastern Michigan.
