TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women's tennis (9-12, 1-7 MAC) closed out its season with a narrow 4-3 defeat to Buffalo (11-8, 5-3 MAC) on Sunday afternoon at the Shadow Valley Tennis club.
Â
"We started out strong with some really great doubles action today," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "Unfortunately, we couldn't grab enough singles matches. Dee Dee really dominated from start to finish, and Mimi had to come back after losing the first set to an extremely experienced Buffalo player. We are young and I believe that these tough 4-3 losses we've experienced will help motivate the team in the off season."
Â
The Rockets jumped ahead of the Bulls by securing the doubles point. Junior duo Sidnay Huck and Colleen O'Brien finished first with a 6-3 victory on Court 3. Junior Megan Miller and sophomore Claire Aleck paired up on Court 2 and to defeat the Bulls, 6-4, and give Toledo a 1-0 edge in the match.
Â
Buffalo evened the scoreboard with a singles victory on Court 5, but freshman Dee Dee Leenabanchong gave UT its lead back by defeating Anna Savchenko, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4 singles.
Â
The Bulls then took a 3-2 advantage by securing wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles. Freshman Mimi Kendall-Woseley fell behind on the top court when Tanja Stojanovska claimed a 6-4 win in the opening set. The Rocket freshman returned to the court to down Stojanovska in the final two frames to win her match, but the Bulls clinched the match victory on Court 6.
