Toledo and Kent State Meet For Three-Game Series Starting Friday

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Rockets ride a four-game winning streak into a Mid-American Conference weekend series with Kent State starting on Friday, April 20 at Schoonover Stadium. The series opener will be played at 6:00 p.m., Saturday's contest starts at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday's series finale begins at 1:00 p.m.

Friday: LHP Steven Calhoun (3-2, 3.38) vs. LHP Eli Kraus (5-2, 3.18)
Saturday: LHP Ross Achter (3-3, 3.09) vs. RHP Zach Willeman (5-3, 5.40)
Sunday: RHP Sam Shutes (2-4, 4.76) vs. RHP Joey Murray (4-0, 2.52)

Toledo (14-23, 7-5 MAC) earned a three-game sweep over Buffalo in its last MAC series to break the .500 mark in conference play. The Rockets have won their last three conference series and currently sit in third place in the MAC West Division.

The Rockets are led by a trio of junior that hit third, fourth and fifth in the lineup. Shortstop Matt Hansen has been hot of late, hitting home runs in three-consecutive games. Hansen is second on the team with five HRs and 28 RBIs. First baseman Dalton Bollinger paces the team with a .322 average and 48 hits. Bollinger ranks 14th in the country with 16 doubles and is currently on a 13-game hit streak. Right fielder AJ Montoya tops the squad with six home runs and 32 RBIs to go along with 13 doubles.

On the mound, the Rockets are led by fifth-year senior Ross Achter and senior Steven Calhoun with three wins apiece. Achter has a 3.09 ERA and 47 strikeouts, while Calhoun follows with a 3.38 ERA and 36 punchouts. 

Kent State (21-12, 7-2 MAC) sits atop the MAC East standings and has won each of its three conference series, including a three-game sweep over Ball State. 

Golden Flashes' outfielder Luke Burch leads the conference in hits with 52 and batting average at .403. Sunday starter Joey Murray tops the MAC in earned run average with a 2.52 mark.

UT has won five games but lost eight times in this series in the last five years, including a 3-2 defeat at the hands of KSU in the 2016 MAC Tournament.

The Rockets enter their MAC bye week and will travel to No. 2 Louisville for their weekend series.
