Toledo Defeats EMU, 6-1, in First MAC Victory

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women's tennis (9-11, 1-6 MAC) downed Eastern Michigan (6-14, 1-5 MAC), 6-1, at the UT Varsity Courts to tally its first conference win of the season.

"We had a great team win today because everyone on the roster contributed," said Head Coach Tracy Mauntler. "I'm really proud of the way our team stuck together through the adversity and tough losses we've had this season. They really deserved this win."

The Rockets jumped into a 1-0 lead by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. UT freshman Dee Dee Leenabanchong and Mimi Kendall-Woseley soared to a 6-1 win on Court 1, while junior duo Sinday Huck and Colleen O'Brien defeated the Eagles, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot.

Kendall-Woseley and sophomore Claire Aleck both downed their opponents in straight sets. Kendall-Woseley claimed a 6-2, 6-4 over Ani Gogvadze at the top spot, and Aleck defeated Renu Sharma, 6-4, 6-1, on Court 6.

Junior Megan Miller jumped ahead of Alejandra Barcelo 6-1 in the opening set at No. 5 but Barcelo evened the score with a 6-4 win in Set 2. Miller powered to a 6-4 victory in the final frame to win the match.

Both Huck and O'Brien fell behind in their matches on Courts 2 and 3, respectively, by dropping their opening frames. The two junior Rockets battled back to win their final two sets and claim their matches.
