Monakana Named Second-Team All-MAC; Four Rockets Earn All-League Accolades

CLEVELAND, OH - Senior Janice Monakana secured Mid-American Conference second-team honors, and three other Rockets earned spots on the all-league squads, the conference announced on Tuesday. Junior Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott and sophomore Mikaela Boyd garnered third-team accolades and newcomer Mariella Santucci was selected to the All-Freshman Team. The All-MAC Teams are the results of voting by the league's head coaches.
Monakana and Bravo-Harriott collected all-conference recognition for the second-straight season, while Boyd received post-season laurels for the first time.
Monakana is averaging a team-best 12.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 25.4 minutes per game this season. The 2016-17 team captain ranks seventh in the MAC in free throw percentage (.798, 99-of-124), 18th in overall rebounding and 19th in scoring (rankings as of March 5).
Monakana has tallied double digits in points 17 times this year, the second-highest mark on the squad, including a career-high 29 against Buffalo on Feb. 1.Â
In MAC play, Monakana tallied a team-best 14.9 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 0.9 apg and 1.8 spg in 28.5 mpg.
Earlier this year, the 2015-16 honorable mention All-MAC honoree became the 26th player in school history to reach the 1,000-career point plateau. Â Â Â
Monakana is tied for eighth in school history in career free throw percentage (.781, 306-of-392), 10th in free throws made (306) and 18th in scoring (1,142 points).
Bravo-Harriott has picked up right where she left off from last season sparking the Toledo offense. The third-year Rocket has started 28 games this season and is averaging 11.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 0.5 steals in 27.5 minutes.
Bravo-Harriott ranks fifth in the MAC in three-point field-goal percentage (.373, 53-of-142), 10th in free throw percentage (.779, 74-of-95), 13th in three-point field-goals made (1.8, 53) and 23rd in scoring (rankings as of March 5).
The 2015-16 honorable mention All-MAC selection has produced double digits in points on 16 occasions this year, the third-highest total on the team, including a season-tying best 23 on two occasions against nationally ranked Notre Dame on Dec. 18 and most recently Western Michigan on Feb. 8.Â
In MAC contests, Bravo-Harriott tallied 10.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.7 apg and 0.4 spg in 29.2 mpg.
The two-time Academic All-District 5 recipient sits tied for eighth in school history in career three-point field-goals made (163) and 10th in three-point field goal percentage (.357, 163-of-457) and three-point field-goal attempts (457).
Boyd was inserted into the starting lineup this season to fill the void left by 2015-16 first-team All-MAC honoree Brenae Harris. The Hillside, IL native has done an impressive job in her expanded role this year, averaging 12.0 points, a squad-best 7.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and a team-high 2.0 steals in a squad-best 30.1 minutes.Â
The only Rocket to start every contest this year, Boyd ranks fifth in the MAC in defensive caroms (5.5 rpg), tied for sixth in thefts, Â seventh in overall rebounding, helpers and assist/turnover ratio (1.5, 119-81) and tied for 20th in scoring (rankings as of March 5).
Boyd has produced double figures in points in a squad-best 20 games, including a career-high 23 points vs. Western Michigan on Feb. 25.Â
In MAC contests, Boyd tallied 13.2 ppg, a team-high 8.7 rpg, 3.3 apg and a squad-best 1.8 spg in a team-high 31.6 mpg.
Santucci is in her first season serving at the director of the Rockets' offense in 2016-17. The Bologna, Italy native has started all but one game and is averaging 6.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, a team-high 4.7 assists and 1.9 steals in 29.0 minutes.Â
Santucci ranks sixth in the MAC in helpers, ninth in assist/turnover ratio (1.5, 141-96) and 10th in thefts (rankings as of March 5).
The first-year Rocket has dished out at least six dimes on a team-high 12 occasions this year, including a season-best 11 at Kent St. on Jan. 21.
Santucci has also scored in double figures on 10 occasions, the fifth-highest total on the team, including a season-best 16 points vs. nationally ranked UCLA in the second round of Cancun Challenge on Nov. 25.
In MAC contests, Santucci tallied 5.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, a team-high 4.3 apg and 1.8 spg in 28.9 mpg.
