LHP Steven Calhoun (1-1, 4.41) vs. LHP Jacob Piechota (2-1, 5.81)

RHP Sam Shutes (2-4, 4.91) vs. RHP Kyle Mallwitz (4-0, 2.34)
The Rockets (6-19, 0-3 MAC) look to notch their first conference win of the season after being swept in the opening series by Northern Illinois. Toledo won its last contest, 8-5, over Oakland in a midweek, non-conference contest. Freshman Nate Haugh was credited with the win out of the bullpen while senior Corey Tipton and junior Dalton Bollinger led the offensive attack.
Sophomore Riley Campbell leads the club with a .289 average and is second on the team with 26 hits. Bollinger leads the team with 27 hits and is tied with junior AJ Montoya with 17 RBIs on the season.
Fifth-year senior Ross Achter leads a strong starting staff for the Rockets. Achter leads the team with a 1.69 earned run average, allowing six earned runs in 32.0 innings.Â
Western Michigan (12-9, 2-1 MAC) started the MAC schedule with a 10-inning loss to Miami before taking the series with a pair of wins over the RedHawks.Â
Tanner Allison leads the Broncos with a .398 average, 35 hits, 33 RBIs and six home runs. Sunday's starter Kyle Mallwitz has notched four wins without a loss to begin the campaign. Sunday will be only his second this year.
The Rockets and the Broncos have split each of their last four series, each team winning six games. UT won the series 2-1 in 2015 and 2013, while WMU did the same in 2014 and last year. Toledo holds an 18-12 advantage over Western Michigan in the last decade, earning sweeps in 2010 and 2011. Toledo has not been swept in the series since 2005.
The two teams have just one common opponent thus far. The Rockets and the Broncos both played Northeastern in the Snowbird Classic. UT was defeated, 9-2, while WMU was victorious, 14-7.
The Rockets will play a pair of midweek games, at Wright State and hosting Dayton, before taking on Bowling Green in the Battle of I75 next weekend.
