AJ Montoya Named MAC West Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Toledo junior outfielder AJ Montoya has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the week of March 13-19, the conference office announced on Monday.
Montoya led the Rockets to a pair of wins over Southern Illinois and another victory over Illinois during a 3-1 weekend in the University of Illinois Tournament. He paced the Rockets with a .467 (7-of-15) average, scored four runs, drove in eight, collected four doubles, a pair of walks and hit his first home run of the season.
On Friday against Southern Illinois, Montoya was 3-for-5 with three doubles and set a career high with five RBIs. Montoya doubled and walked in the second game of Friday's nightcap against Illinois.
The St. Joseph's, Mich. native recorded a hit, a walked and scored a run in Saturday's win over SIU. In the final game of the tournament, Montoya crushed a three-run home run and scored twice to lead the Rockets to a win.
Montoya is the first Rocket to receive the honor this season.
The Rockets take on Notre Dame on Wednesday, March 22 at 6:05 p.m. before starting a three-game series vs. MAC West opponent Northern Illinois on Friday, March 24.
