LINCOLN, Neb. – Senior
Stjepan Sisko was the only Rocket to record a victory in UT's tough loss to Wichita State on Sunday morning in Nebraska's Dillion Tennis Center in Lincoln, NE. With the defeat, UT drops to 9-8 on the season, while the Shockers improve to 9-7 overall.
"We didn't play great today against a very strong Wichita State team," said head coach
Al Wermer. "But by facing two tough opponents this weekend will help us a lot as we set our sights on conference play next weekend."
Sisko took his usual post at the top of the lineup and downed Wichita State's Miroslav Herzan in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, to put Toledo on the board.
Sophomore
Luka Vitosevic topped his opponent, Marius Frosa, 6-4 in the opening set of flight three, but Frosa knotted the score with a 6-2 win in the following frame. Vitosevic battled to the end but he was eventually edged 10-8 in the third-set tiebreaker.
The Rockets will head to Kalamazoo, MI next weekend to begin Mid-American Conference play. UT will open its MAC season against Ball State in a neutral matchup on March 25, before facing the Broncos on March 26. Both matches are slated for 1:00 p.m.
