Cleveland, OH – Toledo swept the Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week honors, the league office announced. Sophomore Claire Aleck was named the Singles Player of the Week for the first time this season, while her teammates senior Sidnay Huck and freshman Deedee Leenabanchong were named the Doubles Team of the week for the second time.
Â
Aleck had a tremendous spring trip for the Rockets. She began her trip with a victory over Nova Southeastern's Arina Sharonova in a three-set tiebreaker. Aleck fell behind, 7-6, after the opening frame but battled back to post scores of 6-3, 10-6 in the final two sets to win the match.
Aleck came in clutch to seal in Toledo's come-from-behind victory over Florida Atlantic. FAU jumped into a 3-1 lead before the Rockets knotted the score at three points apiece. The match came down to Aleck and FAU's Naiya Oden at No. 6 singles. Aleck dropped the opening set, 6-1, but posted a 6-2 win in Set 2 to even the score. The sophomore Rocket found herself behind, 4-2, in the third-set tiebreaker but fought to a 7-5 victory to win the match and clinch the 4-3 victory for the Rockets.
Â
Huck and Leenabanchong proved once again why they sit at the top of the lineup. The Rocket pair went 2-0 over Toledo's spring trip at No. 1 doubles, which brings their overall record to 9-3. The duo helped the Rockets jump a head vs. Nova Southeastern with the help of an 8-5 victory over NSU's Liucelena Perez and Isabella Lowrey. Huck and Leenabanchong were the only Toledo doubles team to record a win vs. Florida Atlantic. FAU posted the first doubles victory at the No. 2 spot but Huck and Leenabanchong tied it up by winning No. 1 doubles, 6-4. Toledo eventually lost the doubles point by dropping third doubles.
