Toledo Heads to SIUE For Final Non-Conference Tournament

TOLEDO, OH –Toledo (10-17) will travel to Edwardsville, IL on Friday-Sunday, March 17-19 for the SIUE Tournament. The Rockets will first face Butler and host SIU Edwardsville on Friday, March 17 in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. CT. UT will then battle Northern Kentucky on Saturday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m. CT and Butler on Sunday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m. CT. Ball State is also participating in the tournament but will not face Toledo.

ROCKET LEADERS
    Senior 2B Chandler Rice is leading Toledo offensively with a .352 batting average and 31 hits through UT's 27 games. Rice has recorded 17 runs, four doubles, one triple, six home runs and 17 RBI. Freshman IF Samantha Golden follows with a .328 batting average, while sophomore IF Katie Cozy is hitting a .317 with four homers and 14 RBI.
    Sophomore Heather Webb (5-6) tops the pitching staff with a 4.22 ERA, leading the team with a high of 96.2 innings pitched and 44 strike outs. Sophomore Kailey Minarchick trails Webb with a 5.34 ERA and 61.2 innings pitched.

OPPONENT BREAKDOWN
    Butler will enter the tournament with an 11-11 record on the season and on a four-game winning streak. The Bulldogs came out of spring break with a 5-2 record with their only losses to Central Michigan (2-1) and La Salle (2-1). Butler was victorious over Fort Wayne (5-1), Monmouth (5-2), Yale (5-4), South Florida (5-1) and Central Connecticut State (3-1). Butler has put together a .462 batting average as a team this season, led by sophomore Zoe St. Cyr who boasts a .500 batting average. Freshman Gabbi Schnaiter leads the team in pitching with 35 strikeouts.
    SIU Edwardsville will head into this weekend's tournament with a 19-4 overall record. It is currently riding an eight-game winning streak. The Cougars traveled to Clearwater, FL over the weekend where they competed in the USF Series Under Armour Showcase and posted a 5-0 record. They defeated Holy Cross (4-2), Providence (3-0), Fort Wayne (8-0), Saint Joseph's (11-2) and South Dakota State (4-3). SIUE has an overall .279 batting average as a team and a .375 on base percentage on the season.
    Northern Kentucky has an overall record of 3-13 heading into the SIUE Tournament this weekend. The Norse traveled to Charleston, SC over the weekend and posted a 2-3 record in the Holy City Showdown Tournament. Northern Kentucky was defeated by host Charleston (8-0), North Carolina (18-1) and Robert Morris (3-2), while claiming its only wins against Massachusetts Lowell (8-6) and Tennessee- Chattanooga (6-2). The team enters this weekend with a .233 batting average, led by Senior Dani Devlin with 11 RBI. Junior Aslynn Roberts leads the Norse with 15 strikeouts this season.
 
HAWAII SPRING TRIP RECAP
     Toledo played in two tournaments over the course its spring trip in Hawaii. The Rockets posted a 7-5 record during Malihini Kipa Aloha and Hawaii Spring Fling Tournaments.
UT was named the Malihini Kipa Aloha champion after recorded a 4-1 record in tournament. Toledo defeated Seattle once and Charleston Southern twice to clinch a spot in the championship game vs. Seattle. The Rockets posted a 6-2 victory over the Redhawks.
    Sophomore Kailey Minarchick was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Pitcher after collecting two wins and two saves. Seniors Chandler Rice and Ashley Maynard and junior Ashley Rausch were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts over the weekend.
    Toledo then competed in the Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament where defeated Marist and Charleston Southern twice more. The Rockets posted a 3-3 record in the tournament.
Rice led the team at the plate, posting a team high 13 hits and a .317 batting average. Cozy trailed with a .308 batting average and knocked in a team-high of six RBI. Webb paced the Rockets in the circle with a 3.33 ERA and a 4-2 record over the spring trip. She pitched for a team-high 33.2 innings and struck out a team-best 20 batters.
