Toledo Travels to MAC West Division Foe Western Michigan on Wednesday

KALAMAZOO, MI - Toledo (14-7, 5-5 MAC) returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 8 when it continues a stretch of four of five road games at Mid-American Conference West Division foe Western Michigan (14-7, 5-5 MAC). Tip-off time is slated for 7:00 p.m. in University Arena and the division match-up will be streamed on ESPN3.

The Rockets and Broncos are currently tied for fourth place in the MAC West Division standings, four games behind frontrunner Northern Illinois (16-5, 9-1 MAC).

UT will be looking to bounce back from a tough 61-55 setback at MAC East Division leader Ohio (17-5 8-3 MAC).

The Bobcats utilized a game-changing 16-0 run late in the second quarter to establish a lead over the Rockets they would not relinquish.

UT held a 20-13 advantage with 3:44 remaining in the first half, before the two-time reigning MAC regular-season champions went on their pivotal run to take control of the contest.

Senior Janice Monakana paced the Rockets with 18 points, followed by junior Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott and sophomore Mikaela Boyd with 15 and 13, respectively. Boyd also ripped down a collegiate-best 15 rebounds to post her fifth career double-double.

UT was stymied offensively by one of the league's top defenses, shooting only 35.0 percent (14-of-40) from the field, including 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from three-point range to suffer its fourth-straight loss in the series.

The Rockets were also guilty of a season-high 22 turnovers, which Ohio translated into 29 points.

Toledo, which is 6-3 away from home, is fueled offensively by the quartet of Monakana, Bravo-Harriott, Boyd and sophomore Kaayla McIntyre, who are averaging 12.8, 11.7, 10.7 and 9.9 ppg, respectively.

Monakana has been playing her best basketball as a Rocket over the last four contests, contributing a squad-best 21.0 ppg.

UT will battle a Western Michigan which has dropped four of its last five games, including a 67-62 road setback at MAC West Division leader Northern Illinois. Meredith Miller led the Broncos with 17 points off the bench, followed by Marley Hill with 11 points and eight boards.

WMU, which is 6-3 at home, features a balanced offense with four players scoring at least 10.5 points per game, paced by Hills' 15.5 ppg and Breanna Mobley's 14.1 ppg and a squad-best 10.1 rpg.

Toledo and Western Michigan will meet for the first of two match-ups during the 2017 MAC campaign and the 75th time overall. Toledo leads the all-time series, 53-21, and has won the last five meetings against its division foe by an average of 11.8 ppg (72.8-61.0).

The Rockets will host the Broncos on Saturday, Feb. 25 with a 2:00 p.m. tip time in Savage Arena.

A year ago, UT swept the regular-season series for the third time in the last four years, securing an 80-73 home victory (Jan. 9) and an 80-68 road win (Feb. 3).

Toledo also maintains a 22-12 advantage in games played in Kalamazoo and has won eight of the last 10 meetings in University Arena.

Following tomorrow's contest, the Rockets will host arch-rival Bowling Green (6-16, 2-8 MAC) on Saturday, Feb. 11. The opening tip versus the Falcons is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and will be streamed live on ESPN3.

UT and BGSU will square off for the only time regular season and the 76th time overall. The Falcons lead the all-time series, 42-33, but the Rockets have won six of the last seven meetings against their cross-division foe.

A year ago, UT swept the regular-season series, claiming a 75-61 home victory (Jan. 30) and a 68-60 road win (Feb. 3).

Toledo also maintains an 18-14 advantage in games played in Savage Arena and has won three of the last four meetings in Lucas County.
