Toledo to Return to Sunshine State for Central District Invitational

    TOLEDO, OH — Toledo will look to carry over the momentum from last week's tournament title at Ball State's Sunshine Invitational when it competes in the Central District Invitational hosted by Michigan State University on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 20-21. The tournament will take place in Port St. Lucie, FL at the par-72, 6,074-yard St. Lucie Trail Golf Club.

    The scoring format will consist of each team fielding five players, with the lowest four scores counting for each round. Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, with the final 18 holes taking place on Tuesday. Live scoring can be found at birdiefire.com.

    Toledo has notched five Top Three showings in its first six tournaments this season, including its 12-stroke victory last week to open the spring. The Rockets also have notched runner-up finishes at Ball State's Cardinal Classic (Sept. 19-20), the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational (Oct. 23-25) and Mercer's Idle Hour Collegiate Championship (Oct. 31-Nov. 1) as well as a third-place showing at the Rocket Classic (Oct. 10-11).

    Sophomore Pinyada Kuvanun leads the Rockets with a 74.6 stroke average, just ahead of classmate Pimchanok Kawil's 75.4 scoring mark. Junior Napaphan Phongpaiboon is third on the team with a 76.2 mark followed by freshman Saranlak Tumfong at 77.1.

Freshman Thunpijja Sukkasem tied for first place at BSU's Sunshine Invitational and earned Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week honors. Sukkasem, who was competing as an individual, posted a 54-hole score of 231 (78-78-75) and carded a three-over par in the final round to climb from third place entering the day to the top of the leaderboard.

    The Rockets will be competing against a 12-team field that includes Augusta, College of Charleston, Furman, Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan State, Mississippi, Nebraska, Rutgers, Toledo and UNC-Wilmington.

Following the Central District Invitational, UT will head to Sedona, Arizona for the Red Rocks Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, March 4-5.
