Toledo, Ohio – Head coach Al Wermer announced Thursday the additions of Tyler Gargas and Cole Shoults for the 2018-19 academic year.
Tyler Gargas: Gargas comes to the University of Toledo after graduating from Ottawa Hills High School in Toledo last June. He will join the Rockets this January and be eligible to compete in the fall. While at Ottawa Hills, he earned first-team All-State honors his final three years, leading his team to the final four of the state tournament his senior year. During his senior season, Gargas posted an astounding 31-3 record in singles matches, and coach Wermer is excited for him to bring his competitive drive to the University of Toledo.
Coach Wermer on Tyler: "Tyler grew up a mile from campus. He's determined to prove he can make a big impact as he evolves in our comprehensive development program. His potential is really unlimited. It's going to be exciting to see how far he can go with his game."
Cole Shoults: Shoults comes to UT from Carmel High School in Carmel, Ind. An expected 2018 graduate, Shoults will join the Rockets next fall and look to make an immediate impact as a freshman. As a sophomore for the Greyhounds, Shoults posted a 21-2 record, earning him All-State honors in Indiana. Coach Wermer is very excited about what Cole will bring to the team.
Coach Wermer on Cole: "Cole is a very disciplined guy who'll show up on day one with a physical presence that most freshman can't touch. He's a rangy and aggressive player who is all about the team."
