Fort Myers, Fla. – The Toledo swimming & diving team concluded its training in Florida on Thursday with a 182-60 setback to Florida Gulf Coast in its final meet of the 2017 calendar year.
"The meet reflects that we've been training really hard and the girls are tired, which is a good lesson to be learned at this point of the season," remarked head coach Jonas Persson. "We had some really nice performances from senior Allison Dicke, freshman Lisa Eriksson, sophomore Bec Welke, and freshman Megan Peepers. Those four individuals led the team in and outside the pool and I'm proud of how they stepped up."
Senior Allison Dicke led the way for the Rockets, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Dicke also placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay along with sophomore Izzy Jones, freshman Alida Ramden, and freshman Lisa Eriksson. Eriksson also produced a strong individual performance in the 50-yard freestyle, placing second in the finals.
In the diving pool, the Rockets were led by freshman Megan Peepers, who finished second in both the one- and three-meter diving events. Freshman Elayna Yoskovich placed third in the one-meter diving competition for Toledo.
The Rockets will return to the pool in the New Year when they travel to Lexington, Ky. for a tri-meet against Ohio State and Kentucky Jan. 5-6.
