Rockets Hand Out Awards at 2017 Football Banquet

Toledo, Ohio– Senior quarterback Logan Woodside (Frankfort, Ky.) was presented with the Jim Nicholson Award at the 2017 University of Toledo Football Banquet held at the Pinnacle in Maumee, Ohio on Sunday, Dec. 10. The Nicholson Award is given annually to the player most contributing to the team's success, and is considered the team's most prestigious award. It is voted on by the players.

Woodside, who was also chosen as the team's offensive MVP, was among a number of players honored at the banquet. He was 248-of-382 passing for 3,758 yards and 28 touchdowns this season. His 3,758 passing yards leads the MAC and ranks eighth nationally, while his 28 touchdown passes also lead the MAC and is tied for 12th in the country. During his Rocket career, Woodside became the first player in program history to throw for over 10,000 yards as he set the Toledo career passing record with 10,390 career yards and 93 career touchdown passes. His 10,390 career passing yards ranks 12th in MAC history, while his 93 career passing touchdowns is fifth in league history. In addition, Woodside's career completion percentage of 65.5% ranks seventh in MAC history.

Senior cornerback Trevon Mathis was named Defensive MVP. A team captain, Mathis had three interceptions and was the team co-leader with seven pass breakups. He had six tackles and career-best two interceptions in a 27-17 win over Northern Illinois on Nov. 2, including a key fourth-quarter pick.
