Jaelan Sanford Earns MAC West Division Player of Week Honors

     TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior guard Jaelan Sanford has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for the first time in his Toledo career, the league office announced on Monday.

     Sanford, who was named to the 2017-18 Lou Henson Award Preseason Watch List last week, set career highs with 31 points and eight assists on Saturday evening to propel Toledo to an exciting 98-87 triumph over Atlantic 10 Conference foe Saint Joseph's in the season opener for both teams.

     The Evansville, Ind. native was extremely efficient in the contest, hitting 11-of-16 shots (4-of-6 from three-point range), 5-of-6 free throws and playing turnover-free in 39 minutes. Sanford also was equally effective in the first half and second half, scoring 16 points in the opening 20 minutes and 15 following intermission.

          The Rockets (1-0) are back in action tomorrow night at home vs. NCAA Division III foe Ohio Northern before hosting Horizon League favorite Oakland (1-0) on Saturday, Nov. 18. Tipoff time for both contests is set for 7:00 p.m.
