TOLEDO - The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation and the Mid-American Conference are teaming up to provide $5,000 to Toledo Public Schools as part of an effort to establish a community-based program to continue to build positive relationships within each campus community.
Â
During the 2017-18 academic year, the CFP Foundation is providing $60,000 ($5,000 for each of the 12 MAC athletic program) for academic initiatives at elementary and/or secondary schools. This is the first year for the MAC's community program.
Â
The Toledo Public schools will use the $5,000 to assist with tutoring expenses for student-athletes at two high schools to enhance their academics. This support for academics will provide these students the opportunity to participate in athletics, help build leadership skills and prepare them for college or careers. Recognition of these participants will occur during the Rockets' home football game this Saturday vs. Akron. Kickoff for the game is 12 noon.
Â
"We are very thankful to the College Football Playoff Foundation for providing this generous donation to Toledo Public Schools," said UT vice-president and athletic director
Mike O'Brien. "Projects like these help make the difference in the lives of our community's children."
"The vision for Toledo Public Schools is to ensure all students are college and career ready upon graduation. These funds will assist students in reaching their academic goals," said Toledo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Romules Durant. "We are grateful for the support from the University of Toledo and look forward to continuing working together far into the future."
Â
The funding for the grant is provided through the MAC's partnership with the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation. The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation is the charitable arm of the College Football Playoff, supporting education across the country. The CFP Foundation's primary platform, Extra Yard for Teachers, elevates the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering teachers through the implementation of programs in four focus areas: resources, recognition, recruitment and professional development. The CFP Foundation utilizes multiple partnerships to execute its initiatives and support positive educational outcomes.
