Toledo, Ohioā Toledo baseball's annual Blue-Gold World Series started on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory for the Blue team.
It was a six inning game that began in the top of the fourth. The offensive highlight came when
Michael Ryan blasted a home run to left field in the top of the fifth to put Blue up 1-0. The other two runs came in to score after balks with baserunners on first and third.
Ryan's home run and
Matt Hansen's 2-for-3 day were the offensive highlights for Blue on Tuesday.
Luke Schaefer tossed three shutout innings to close out the game and Axel Bueter threw three innings and struck out four.
The Gold team managed a couple hits on the afternoon, while
Nate Haugh led the way with 2.1 innings pitched and four strikeouts.
Game two of the series will take place on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at Scott Park.
