TOLEDO, OH – Toledo rallied in its second-straight victory of the season in the form of a 4-3 defeat over Duquesne on Friday afternoon. The Rockets improved their record to 2-2 on the season.
"Duquesne beat us last year, so our team was really looking forward to this match," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "We had great energy from the start which helped propel us through the doubles competition. Sidnay and DeeDee did a great job clinching against an extremely experienced Duquesne team at No. 1 doubles. Our freshmen continue to show they are impact players and Megan did a great job controlling her match from start to finish."
UT got a head start against the Dukes with a tough 7-6 victory from its double team of junior Sidnay Huck and freshman DeeDee Leenabanchong. Their victories lead them to the duo's fourth-consecutive win at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores Rani Goodland and junior Megan Miller also paired up to claim a 6-3 win over their opponents at No. 3 doubles.
Leenabanchong and Mimi Kendall-Woseley both claimed straight-set victories in the singles competition. Leenabanchong recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win over the Duke's Zuzanna Stelmaszak at the No. 3 spot, while Kendall-Woseley defeated Ally Miller 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Megan Miller also downed her opponent in a two-set triumph over Duquesne's Aishwarya Kona, 6-4, 6-4.
The Rockets will return to the courts tomorrow afternoon to take on Cleveland State at 3:00 p.m at Shadow Valley on Central Ave.
