West Lafayette, IN – Sophomore Reid Teatsorth and junior Omar Espinosa fell short of their respective singles flight championships on the final day of the Purdue Invitational.
"It was a very productive weekend filled with a lot of progress and improvement," said head coach Al Wermer. "Defeats are the best teachers, but what I was most proud of was the fight and spirit in the team.
Teatsorth began Friday's Flight D competition with a three-set defeat over DePauls Conor O'Meara. He then went on to record a pair of two-set victories. Teatsorth registered a victory in the opening set of the championship match vs. Ball State's Conner Andersen, but Andersen went on to record two-straight set wins to claim the match.
Espinosa dropped the opening set in his first two Flight C singles matches, but came from behind to claim both victories. He finished Saturday's competition with a two-set victory over Butler's Ari Gerstein but was defeated by Ball State's Jan Jirus in straight sets in the championship match.
The Rockets will host the Rocket Invitational next weekend on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
