YORKTOWN, IN – The University of Toledo women's golf program opened its 2016-17 campaign with a strong performance during the first two rounds of Ball State's Cardinal Classic on Monday. The Rockets are tied for second place with Western Michigan at 13-over par 589 and trail first-place Eastern Kentucky by nine strokes.
Sophomore
Pinyada Kuvanun is setting the pace for UT in her first collegiate event after tallying birdies on two of her final four holes today. She is tied for fifth place with a one-over par 145 (72-73) and registered five birdie and six bogeys in her two rounds.
Kuvanun is four strokes behind second-round leader Elsa Moberly (72-69=141) of the tournament-leading Colonels. Ball State's Sydney Anderson is second at two-under par 142 (69-73) with Ohio's Hailey Hrynewich in third place at one-under par 143 (70-73).
Sophomore
Pimchanok Kawil is one stroke behind Kuvanun and tied for eighth place at two-over par 146 (74-72). Kawil was extremely consistent in her second round with just one birdie and one bogey.
Sophomore
Hannah Kochendoerfer posted the best round of her collegiate career in the morning with a one-over par 73 and is tied for 20
th place at six-over par 150 (73-77).
Rounding out the Rockets' lineup are sophomore
Natcha Daengpiem (T-29
th/76-76=152) and junior
Napaphan Phongpaiboon (T-43
rd/82-73=155). Phongpaiboon's one-over par 73 in the second round marked the best of her collegiate career.
Freshmen
Thunpijja Sukkasem (81-73=154) and
Saranlak Tumfong (77-78=155) are competing as individuals and tied for 38
th and 43
rd place, respectively.
The third and final round of the tournament will held on Tuesday with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
