TOLEDO, OH - The Toledo women's soccer program was well represented in the 2016 Rio Olympics, as junior Isa Echeverri and former Rocket Natalia Gaitan were part of the Colombian Women's National Team.

Colombia punched its ticket to Brazil by finishing second behind host Brazil at the 2014 Copa America in Ecuador. The 2016 Rio Olympics is just the second Olympic appearance for the Colombian team.

Colombia was blanked in its first match by France, 4-0, after falling behind early on an own goal just two minutes into the match. The team was also shutout against New Zealand, 1-0, conceding the lone marker during the 31
st minute.

In the final match of group play, Colombia faced the gold medal favorite United States. Colombia scored its first Olympic goal when Catalina Usme found the back of the net on a free kick in the 26
th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

The United States tied the contest on a goal by Crystal Dunn in the 41st minute and took the lead midway through the second half on a tally by Mallory Pugh.

Colombia's Usme netted her second free kick goal in the 90
th minute to clinch a tie and earn Colombia's first Olympic point in team history.
Gaitan, the Colombian captain, played every minute in the three Olymic matches while Echeverri came off the bench for the second half against the United States.

Echeverri hopes to return to Toledo in time for the Rockets season opener on Friday, Aug. 19 at Quinnipiac. Gaitan will continue to play for Valencia Club Futbol in Spain.
