TOLEDO, OH – Toledo will host its last meet before the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships on Thursday, May 5 and Friday May 6. UT will participate in one event, the shot put, on Thursday before finishing the event on Friday.
Â
MAC foes Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan will participate in the event. Big Ten members Michigan and Michigan State will compete and Capital, Case Western, Cedarville, Central State, Findlay, Heidelberg, Ursuline (OH) and Windsor round out the women's field.
Â
The meet will serve as a last chance meet for many looking to push themselves into the conference meet.
Â
"Everybody except the distance runners who are competing at MACs will compete this weekend," head coach Linh Nguyen said.
Â
For the first time all year, the Rockets will compete at home and will get to stay home two weekends in a row. "There's a comfort level at home, especially in the field events," Nguyen said. "Especially the field events because the throwers know the circles since they throw in them every day."
Â
Last time out, several Rockets picked up personal bests. sophomore Stephanie Barlow ran the 1,500 in a personal best 4:41.98 en route to a fifth-place finish. Sophomore Delainey Phelps also earned a PR in the same event with a time of 4:45.95.
Â
Many of the sprinters posted personal bests as well. Sophomore Kristiana Collins picked up a PR in the 200m and 400m with a times of 25.55 and 59.68. Collins finished ninth and tenth in the 200 and 400, respectively. Freshman Christina Johnson also posted a best in the 200m with a time of 25.57, and sophomore Josie Yesmunt picked up PRs in the 100m and 200m with times of 12.63 and 26.14.
Â
In the field events, junior Madeline Pacella recorded the second-highest high jump in the Mid-American Conference so far this season and a personal best at 1.76m to win the high jump. Senior Kyesha Neal also picked up a victory in the shot put with a 15.09 toss. Neal also moved into second in school history in the hammer toss with a 51.50m throw.
