Otto Black to Represent Toledo at NCAA Regional Next Week

KOHLER, WI - Senior Otto Black will represent the University of Toledo men's golf program next week when he competes in a NCAA Regional hosted by Marquette University. The Kohler Regional will feature 13 teams and 10 individuals and take place on Monday-Wednesday, May 16-18 at the par-72, 7,123-yard Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run Golf Club.

The regional event will consist of 54 holes with 18 holes being played each day. There will be a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. the first two days and 7:30 a.m. off both hole No. 1 and No. 10 for the final round. Individuals and teams will be re-paired according to score after the first and second rounds.

The No. 4 individual seed at the Kohler Regional, Black will compete in a NCAA event for the first time. The Pinckney, MI native is also the second Rocket to compete in a NCAA regional as an individual, and his appearance will mark the third time in the last four years UT has been represented in a regional. Chris Selfridge also participated at regionals following the 2012-13 and 2014-15 seasons.

A four-time all-league selection, Black enters the regional with a career-best 72.9 stroke average that ranks fourth in the Mid-American Conference. Black is the third golfer in school history to earn all-league accolades on four occasions after being a first-team honoree the last two years and a second-team recipient as a freshman and sophomore. Black, who is ranked No. 205 in the most recent Golfstat individual rankings, notched his best 54-hole score ever with an eight-under par 208 (69-68-71) at last fall's Firestone Invitational.

Meadow Valleys is one of six regional sites across the country along with Ol' Colony Golf Complex (host Alabama); Gallery Golf Club (host Arizona); Championship Course at University of New Mexico (host New Mexico); Karsten Creek Golf Club (host Oklahoma State); Vanderbilt Legends Club (host Vanderbilt).

Blackwolf Run opened for play in June 1988 and was named that year's "Best New Public Course" in the country by Golf Digest. Regarded as one of Pete Dye's crowning achievements, Blackwolf Run has hosted a number of professional championships: the Andersen Consulting World Golf Championships in 1995, 1996 and 1997 as well as the U.S. Women's Open in 1998 and 2012.

The Meadow Valleys Course was ranked No. 72 in Golf Digest ranking of America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses for 2015-16.

The low five teams and low individual not on an advancing team will move on to the NCAA Championships, which will be held at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, OR from Friday-Wednesday, May 27-June 1. The Kohler Regional will include four Top 25 teams (according to latest Golfstat rankings): No. 4 Illinois, No. 10 Florida State, No. 16 Florida and No. 21 Arkansas.

Fans can follow live scoring every three holes for next week's event through Golfstat at http://bit.ly/1UMGncn.

LSU won the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship team title, defeating USC, 4-1 in the final round of match-play competition.
