TOLEDO, OH - Toledo looks to maintain its outstanding play as of late when it battles Mid-American Conference West Division rival Eastern Michigan (17-8, 8-6 MAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at home. Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and can be seen on ESPN3.
The Rockets have won six of their last seven league contests, including Saturday's 81-79 overtime victory at MAC West Division frontrunner Central Michigan.Â
UT enters Wednesday's pivotal match-up deadlocked with Ball St. (18-7, 10-4 MAC) for second place in the division and is only one game behind the Chippewas. BSU and CMU square off against each other tomorrow  in Mount Pleasant.
Senior
Brenae Harris hit a layup with 9.2 seconds left in the extra period on Saturday to end CMU's eight-game winning streak.
Central Michigan had a chance to win the division showdown at the buzzer, but Da'Jourie Turner's three-point field-goal attempt was off the mark.Â
Harris finished with a team-high 23 points in a career-best 44 minutes against the Chippewas. Sophomore
Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott had 19 points with a squad-high five helpers in a collegiate-best 40 minutes, and junior
Janice Monakana totaled 15 points.Â
As a team, UT shot 51.6 percent (32-of-62) from the field, including 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from beyond the arc, and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the charity stripe.Â
Toledo also outrebounded the MAC's top team on the glass, 40-37, sparked by nine caroms from freshman
Kaayla McIntyre.
For the season, the Rockets are fueled offensively by the quartet of Harris, Monakana, Bravo-Harriott and senior
Ana Capotosto, who are averaging 14.3, 11.1, 11.0 and 9.6 ppg, respectively. This group accounts for 69.1 percent of the team's scoring.
Toledo, which sports a 7-3 record at home this season, will take on a streaking EMU team which has won its last four contests. Most recently, the Eagles claimed an 84-60 home win vs. Northern Illinois on Saturday. MAC Player of the Year candidate Cha Sweeney paced the victors with 19 points, followed closely by Chanise Baldwin, Janay Morton and Sheyna Deans with 17, 16 and 16, respectively.Â
The Eagles are currently leading the MAC in steals (11.6 spg), offensive boards (15.6 rpg), assist/turnover ratio (1.0, 12.8-13.0) and turnover margin (+6.6, 13.0, 19.6), as well as ranking second in scoring offense (73.0 ppg).
Eastern Michigan, which is 8-5 away from home this year, features three players scoring in double figures and is paced by Sweeney at 18.0 ppg. The Toledo native currently sits in the top six in the league in four categories.Â
UT and EMU will square off for the second time this year and 78th time overall. The Eagles secured a 59-41 triumph over the Rockets in the Convocation Center on Jan. 23. Â Â Â
Toledo maintains a 46-31 (.597) advantage in the all-time series, including a 25-11 (.694) edge in contests played in Savage Arena.Â
A year ago, Eastern Michigan escaped the "Glass City" with a 75-61 road triumph over Toledo (Jan. 24, 2015).Â
Following tomorrow's contest, the Rockets will travel to MAC West Division foe Northern Illinois (10-15, 3-11 MAC) on Saturday, Feb. 27. The opening tip versus the Huskies is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (CT) in the Convocation Center and can be seen on ESPN3.
The Midnight Blue & Gold claimed a 66-59 victory over the Huskies in Savage Arena on Jan. 16.Â
Toledo holds a 30-18 (.625) lead in the all-time series, but has split the season series each of the last two years against Northern Illinois.
NIU has a 13-9 (.591) edge in contests played in DeKalb, emerging victorious in four of the last six match-ups in the Convocation Center. Â
A season ago, UT dropped a 68-64 decision against NIU on the road (March 4).
