TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo released its 2016 football schedule today and among the Rockets' six home games next season are a Sept. 17 non-conference battle with Fresno State of the Mountain West Conference and a Homecoming clash with arch-rival Bowling Green on Oct. 15.
Toledo's other non-conference games include its home opener vs. Maine on Sept. 10, and road games at Arkansas State in the season opener on Sept. 3 and at Brigham Young in a Friday night tilt on Sept. 30.
In addition to the contest with Bowling Green, the Mid-American Conference portion of the schedule features home games vs. Central Michigan (Oct. 22), Ohio (Thursday, Oct. 27/CBS Sports Network) and Ball State (Wednesday, Nov. 16/ESPN2/U). MAC road games are at Eastern Michigan (Oct. 8), Akron (Wednesday, Nov. 2/ESPN2), Northern Illinois (Wednesday, Nov. 9 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago/ESPN2/U) and Western Michigan (Friday, Nov. 25/TV TBA).
The Rockets are scheduled to be on national television for the final five MAC games of the season, and more TV games are expected to be announced later.
"We face another challenging schedule. Both our MAC and non-conference opponents will present us with tough games virtually every week," said Jason Candle, who will be entering his first full season as the Rockets' head coach. "We look forward to preparing for an exciting season and competing for a Mid-American Conference championship."
Candle welcomes back a team that went 10-2 in 2015, including a victory over Temple in the Marmot Boca Raton Bowl. The Rockets return a solid core of players next fall, including a pair of All-MAC running backs, senior Kareem Hunt and junior Terry Swanson. Seven other starters return on offense, including first-team All-MAC senior offensive lineman Storm Norton, All-MAC wide receiver Corey Jones and junior quarterback Logan Woodside, who was the team's starting signal-caller in 2014. The defense is led by two-time All-MAC defensive tackle Treyvon Hester, All-MAC safety DeJuan Rogers and junior linebacker Ja'Wuan Woodley, the 2015 Boca Raton Bowl Defensive MVP.
Rocket football season ticket orders are being taken now. Go online at UTRockets.com or call 419-530-GOLD (4653) for more information.
