MOUNT PLEASANT, MI - With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, Toledo (14-10, 9-4 MAC) ventures to Mid-American Conference West Division leader Central Michigan (17-7, 11-2 MAC) on Saturday, Feb. 20 looking to remain near the top of the standings. Tip-off time is set for 1:00 p.m. in McGuirk Arena and can be seen on ESPN3.
UT enters tomorrow's match-up deadlocked with Ball State (17-7, 9-4 MAC) for second place in the division standings and is two games behind the frontrunning Chippewas.
The Rockets have won five of their last six contests, including a 68-60 road victory against Bowling Green on Wednesday.Â
Toledo's hard-fought win over its arch-rivals was buoyed by a career-high 28 points from junior
Janice Monakana.Â
UT also received 19 points from sophomore
Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott, as well as nine points, a game-high five assists and a contest-best three rejections from senior
Brenae Harris to claim its sixth win in the last seven meetings versus the Falcons.Â
The aforementioned trio of Monakana, Bravo-Harriott and Harris accounted for 55 of the Rockets' 68 points, but the most important tallies may have come from freshman
Halee Printz. The Tipp City, OH native scored five-straight points when the game was tied midway through the fourth quarter to give Toledo a lead it would not surrender.Â
With the score knotted at 51-51 at the 6:15 mark in the final period, Printz converted back-to-back field goals and split a pair of free throws to help the Rockets win their fourth-straight road game against BGSU for the first time in program history. Â
Printz's strong play helped Toledo outscore Bowling Green, 17-9, over the final six-plus minutes of regulation.
Harris paces the UT attack at 14.0 ppg and is 12th in the MAC in scoring. Monakana (11.0 ppg) and Bravo-Harriott (10.7 ppg) are also averaging in double figures.
Toledo, which sports a 7-7 record away from home this season, will take on a red-hot CMU team which has won its last eight contests. Most recently, the Chippewas claimed a 73-67 road win at Northern Illinois last Saturday. Da'Jourie Turner paced Central Michigan with a game-high 24 points, followed by Reyna Frost (12 pts, 16 rebs.) and Tinara Moore (10 pts., 13 rebs.) with double-doubles.Â
The Chippewas, which are 9-2 at home this year, feature three players scoring at least 12.5 points per game and are led by Presley Hudson at 14.1 ppg, 3.8 apg and 1.5 spg.
UT and CMU will square off for the first of two meetings this year and 86th time overall. Â Â Â
A season ago, Toledo swept the regular-season series, securing a 61-46 road victory (Feb. 11) and a 62-53 home triumph (Feb. 28).
The Rockets hold a 45-30 (.600) advantage in the all-time series, including a slim 18-16 (.529) edge in contests played in McGuirk Arena.Â
Toledo has won three of the last four meetings against the Chippewas in Mount Pleasant. All four contests have been decided by at least 13 points. UT is outscoring CMU by 8.2 ppg (72.0-63.8) during this stretch.
Following tomorrow's contest, the Rockets will host MAC West Division rival Eastern Michigan (16-8, 7-6 MAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 24. The opening tip versus the Eagles is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and can be seen on ESPN3.
Earlier this season, the Eagles registered a 59-41 triumph over the Rockets in the Convocation Center on Jan. 23. Â Â Â
The Rockets maintain a 46-31 (.597) advantage in the all-time series, including a 25-11 (.694) edge in contests played in Savage Arena.Â
A year ago, Eastern Michigan escaped the "Glass City" with a 75-61 road victory over Toledo (Jan. 24, 2015).
