TOLEDO, OH - Sophomore Nancy Kessler has been medically disqualified to play basketball by the University of Toledo medical staff, head coach Tricia Cullop announced earlier this week. Kessler has experienced multiple concussions over the last two-plus years.
"Due to the multiple concussions Nancy has incurred over her career (high school, Canadian National Team and college), we are sad to report that her basketball career has come to an end," Cullop said.
The St. Catherines, ONT native will remain on scholarship at UT and continue to be part of the team.  Â
"It's an extremely tough situation, but after talking with my family and the doctors, I knew it was the right thing for me to do," Kessler said. "At the same time, though, I'm excited for my new role on the team and where it might lead."
Kessler appeared in 30 games for the Rockets over the past year-and-a-half, averaging 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 7.2 minutes.
"We fully support Nancy in her decision and look forward to her once again being an active member of our program," Cullop said. "Although she will not be playing on the court anymore for us, we know Nancy will continue to contribute to our program in many other ways."
The Rockets will return to the hardwood this evening when they travel to arch-rival Bowling Green (8-13, 4-8 MAC). Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Stroh Center and can be seen on ESPN3, BCSN and TWCS.
