TOLEDO, OH - Toledo men's tennis slipped by with a 4-3 home victory over Detroit on Friday evening. The Rockets improve to a record of 3-5, while Detroit falls to 2-6.

Toledo began the night with a clean sweep in doubles. Stjepan Sisko and Luka Vitosevic won a quick match, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot, while Omar Espinosa and Juan Carranza soon followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 2. Freshmen tag team Serjen Olmedo and Vince Anzalone were about to come away with a victory of their own before the refs called it quits. The duo was ahead 5-1 before it went unfinished.

Though the Rockets were dominant in doubles play, the singles matches made the overall outcome far more unpredictable.

Sisko continued his 4-0 undefeated streak in the No. 1 slot with a 6-2, 7-6 victory. Olmedo confidently defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.

Vitosevic, Espinosa and Stephen Miller were all bested by their competitors in two sets.

With the score tied 3-3 between UT and the Titans, it came down to a game-clinching three-set match between freshman Vince Anzalone and senior Rafael Orantes. The freshman and senior each recorded a 6-4 victory but with his teammates behind him, the Toledo rookie pulled away with a 6-2 win in the only third set of the day.

"This was a crazy match because there were blow outs in both directions," said head coach Al Wermer. "We were dominant in doubles tonight but no one was really positive who was going to pull through when it got to singles. It came down to one man: Vinnie! It was a great experience for a freshman to push the team to a victory like that. He deserved it."

The Midnight Blue & Gold return to defend their home courts tomorrow when they battle Aquinas at 1:00 p.m. and Wayne State at 7:00 p.m.
