TOLEDO, OH – Toledo senior tight end Michael Roberts (Cleveland, OH) was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week by the John Mackey Award for his performance in last Saturday's 42-35 victory over Bowling Green.
 
            Roberts set career highs in catches (6), yards receiving (94) and touchdowns (3) in the victory. He had a career-long 41-yard TD reception in the first quarter, a 22-yard TD catch in the second and a five-yard scoring reception in the third. He also caught a key two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. Roberts has now scored a TD in five of six games this season.
 
            Through six games, Roberts has 25 receptions for 288 yards and nine touchdowns, which is tied for the most in UT annals by a tight end as well as tied for third overall in program history. Tight end Don Seymour also had nine TD catches during the 1973 campaign. Roberts needs five more TDs to tie Lance Moore (14 in 2004) for the all-time UT record.
 
            The Mackey Award, named in honor of NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey, has been given to the nation's best tight end since 2000. Last week, Roberts was named to the Mackey Award mid-season watch list.
 
            The John Mackey Award is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2016 John Mackey recipient will be announced on Dec. 7 and then presented live on Dec. 8 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. Other key dates include the announcement of the 2016 Mackey Semi-finalists on Nov. 14 and the 2016 Mackey Finalists on Nov. 22.
