UT to Honor Tennis Players from "Dynasty Era"

Toledo, OH – The Toledo men's tennis program will hold a banquet this Friday, Oct. 14 to honor former student-athletes from the 1965-73 teams. The banquet will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Perrysburg, OH. The banquet will be one of the many functions involved in UT Tennis' Alumni Weekend.

Every team from the 1965-73 seasons won a Mid-American Conference Championship, with the exception of the 1972 squad who was the runner-up, and this period of success is referred to as the "Dynasty Era." All eight of the Toledo men's tennis Varsity 'T' Hall of Fame inductees were members of one or more of the Dynasty Teams.

Seventeen former Rockets from the "Dynasty Era", including Varsity 'T' members Brian Eisner, Pete Kramer, Dean Eisner, Mike Ducey, Ken Swartz and Brian Engel, will be back on campus for Homecoming weekend and will be honored at the banquet on Friday.

"It is absolutely tremendous that the University of Toledo wants to recognize and reward these former players and coaches," said Varsity 'T' Hall of Famer Brian Eisner. "Having all of these players come back to campus is very special, it's hard to put into words. As you get older, you realize that life is just a series of experiences, some positive and some negative. Winning those MAC Championships as a team 50 years ago may have been some of the most positive experiences of our lives. It gave all of us a tremendous foundation to continue our lives after college. It was a unique experience and I know that we all feel honored to represent UT."

The Toledo tennis program will host a pregame tailgate for all men's and women's tennis alumni, friends and family before UT's Homecoming game vs. Bowling Green on Saturday, Oct. 15. The tailgate will be held on the UT Varsity Tennis Courts and will start at 1:00 p.m.

The 1965-73 team members will then be honored on the field during the Rockets' football game vs. Bowling Green.

"This is turning out to be a huge event, and I think it's going to be an immense success," said men's tennis head coach Al Wermer. "We have a great cross section of tennis alums coming back to campus from all eras, both men and women. I am thrilled about the fact that we have 17 guys from the "Dynasty Era" coming back. Some haven't seen their former teammates for 30-50 years."
