TOLEDO, OH – Toledo senior tight end Michael Roberts (Cleveland, OH) was named to the mid-season Watch List for the 2016 John Mackey Award today. The Mackey Award, named in honor of NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey, has been given to the nation's best tight end since 2000.
 
            Through five games, Roberts has 19 receptions for 194 yards and six touchdowns. He needs four more TD grabs to break the Toledo single-season record for tight ends set by Don Seymour in 1973. Last season, Roberts hauled in a career-high 21 receptions for 234 yards with four touchdown catches.

    The John Mackey Award is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2016 John Mackey recipient will be announced on Dec. 7 and then presented live on Dec. 8 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. Other key dates include the announcement of the 2016 Mackey Semi-finalists on Nov. 14 and the 2016 Mackey Finalists on Nov. 22.
