Late Goal Lifts Rockets to 1-0 Victory at Oakland

Alli MacBeth scores the winner in 78th minute

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Toledo women's soccer team pulled out a 1-0 win at Oakland, with junior Alli MacBeth's 78th-minute goal standing as the winner at Oakland Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
 
Toledo (2-3-1) held an 8-4 advantage in shots and 5-1 advantage in corner kicks at halftime. The Rockets then withstood a second-half surge from the Golden Grizzlies (1-5-1) before MacBeth scored on an assist from senior Chloe Tadolini in the 78th minute. After the goal, Oakland took two potential tying shots before the final whistle, but one missed and the other was saved.
 
Five players each took two shots for the Rockets – graduate student Grace Turski, seniors Olivia Dault and Chloe Tadolini and juniors Kaema Amachree and Brooklyn Whitehead. Junior Agnes Stenlund stopped all four Oakland shots on goal on the day.
 
"We had a great first half and start to the game," said Head Coach Mark Batman. "We could have been up early but the chances just weren't falling. We grinded through the second half and finally found a goal. The girls were great at killing off the rest of the game. We'll take this week to rest and finish the non-conference schedule strong.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 3' | Toledo put two shots on goal in the first three minutes. the last of which was provided the first shot on goal of the game from Grace Turski.
  • 63' | Agnes Stenlund made her second save of the game off a shot by Oakland's Frankie Mudd.
  • 78' | MacBeth finished a shot in the low-left corner to give Toledo a 1-0 advantage.
  • 88' | Stenlund made her fourth and final save to preserve the lead for the Rockets.

  • MacBeth's goal was the second of her career, and she became the fifth Rocket goal-scorer this season.
  • The Rockets finished with a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
  • Toledo has now scored first in each of its last three games.
  • The Rockets have scored five of their six goals in the second half, including three times within the final 15 minutes.
  • Toledo extended its streak of games within one goal to six, the first time opening a season with six straight games within a goal since 2013.
  • The Rockets finished the regular season undefeated against the Horizon League with a 2-0-1 record.
