TOLEDO, Ohio – Head Coach
Tracy Mauntler announced the addition of Adam Kovac to the Toledo women's tennis coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach for the start of the 2024-25 season on Friday. Kovac is a recent graduate of Toledo and played under men's tennis head coach Al Wermer from 2021-24.
"I've gotten to know Adam over the past four years, and I think he's going to be an amazing addition to our program," Mauntler said. "There is something special about being a coach at your Alma Mater because you already understand the team culture and pride associated with being a Rocket. I can't wait for Adam to get started."
Originally from Novi Knezevac, Serbia, Kovac was a two-time second-team All-MAC selection. With Kovac in the lineup, Toledo clinched the 2023 MAC regular season championship which was the first title since 1973, claimed back-to-back Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship titles in 2023 and 2024, and made two consecutive trips to the 2023 and 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship Tournament. Kovac competed at the 2022 ITA All-American Championships as well as the ITF Men's Tennis Tour, and two times at the Milwaukee Tennis Classics and the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. As a sophomore, Kovac was voted team Most Improved Player and Toughness Award and won the Flight 2 Singles draw at the MAC Indoors with an undefeated 3-0 record.
Before his collegiate career, Kovac produced a 29-10 record in ITF juniors play in 2019, captured a tournament title at the 2019 J5 Subotica Tournament in Serbia, and reached the semifinals of the 2019 J5 Skopje Open in North Macedonia.
Kovac graduated with a degree in marketing from the University of Toledo in May 2023 and is working towards a master's degree.
