Junior made eight saves in shutout victory over first-place Ohio
CLEVELAND, Ohio – An eight-save shutout has earned Toledo junior Agnes Stenlund the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The goalkeeper's performance earned the Rockets a 1-0 victory over Ohio, who was tied for first place at the time. Stenlund's eight stops were a season high and the most saves she has ever made in a shutout in her collegiate career. The clean sheet was Stenlund's and Toledo's seventh shutout in 2024.
Stenlund was critical down the stretch in preserving the Rocket lead, which Toledo held for the final 50 minutes after a Brooklyn Whitehead goal. She made three saves in the final two minutes, the first coming off a low, 30-yard shot in the run of play, and the final two on dangerous free kicks from just outside the box.
In league ranks, Stenlund is third in shutouts (7) and total saves (61), fourth in saves per game (4.07) and fifth in goals-against average (0.87).
Stenlund took the league's defensive honor for the second time this season, having also earned the award on Oct. 1.
Toledo (6-6-3, 3-3-2 MAC – 11 pts.) is tied for the two final MAC Tournament spots with three matches to play. The Rockets will face first-place Western Michigan at home on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m. before hitting the road to finish the week at Northern Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. CT.
