TOLEDO, Ohio – SeniorsÂ
Barend Botha and
Palmer Yenrick were each named Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week by the league office on Thursday. It is the eighth time Botha has received the weekly award in his collegiate career, while Yenrick is being honored for the first time.
Botha and Yenrick each tied for first place and set a new school 54-hole record with a 13-under par 203 at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational. Their play helped the Rockets finish second competing against a field that included numerous Top 100 programs, including No. 30 North Florida, No. 40 Indiana, No. 51 Cincinnati, and No. 55 UNC Greensboro.
Botha's 13-under par score edged his previous school record by one stroke. He shot a five-under par 67 and six-under par 66 on the first day followed by a two-under par 70 in the final round. Yenrick's 13-under par score edged Botha's previous school record by one stroke and his seven-under 65's on the first day of the tournament were a career best as well as one shot away from a school record.
Toledo will wrap up its fall season when it travels to Carmel, Calif. for the Cal Poly Invitational on Oct. 30-31.
