EAST LANSING, Mich. – Senior Cassie Alcala led the way for six Rockets at the ITA Midwest Regionals in East Lansing, Mich., reaching the Round of 32 before falling to a tough Notre Dame opponent.

As a team, Toledo had a combined record of 4-6 in singles and 2-3 in doubles over three days of competition.

Alcala opened the tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Northwestern's Neena Feldman. Alcala, the two-time MAC Player of the Year, then fell to Notre Dame's Rylie Hanford in three sets. Alcala won the second set 7-5 to force a third-set decider before falling 6-4 to end her weekend.

Sophomore Sanjana Talamraju defeated Northwestern and Youngstown State opponents to advance into the main draw. Tallamraju was eliminated after falling in two sets to Michigan's Gala Mesochoritout.

Toledo's duo of Sanjana Tallamraju and Julia Kuszynski opened doubles play with a huge 8-6 win over Ohio State's Madeline Atway and Teah Chavez. Tallamraju and Kuszynski's time in the tournament ended when they fell 8-6 to a tough Notre Dame pair.

Senior Shalini Tallamraju and junior Audrey Moutama got a sense of their Mid-American Conference counterparts in the opening round of doubles play, taking down Northern Illinois, before falling to a strong Michigan duo.

"It's always a good experience to play against the best in the Midwest," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "I think we saw some growth and made some noise at this year's regional. We are looking forward to our last two events, which are team events. Our whole culture is built upon the team aspect of college tennis and so we are looking forward to playing these next two events."

Up next, UT will hold its annual Rocket Indoor Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 27-28 at Twos Athletic Club.
