TOLEDO, Ohio – Senior
NJ Botha was named Mid-American Conference Men's Co-Golfer of the Week , the league office announced on Wednesday. Botha was honored for the first time in his collegiate career after tying for second place to help Toledo capture a share of the Island Resort Intercollegiate title on Monday.
A George, South Africa native, Botha carded a career-low nine-under par 207 in the Rockets' season-opening tournament. Toledo tied for first with Illinois State and finished four shots ahead of Michigan and eight ahead of Kentucky. Botha opened the tourney with a four-under par 68, one shy of his collegiate best. He then followed that up with a three-under 69 and two-under 70 to shoot under par in all three rounds.
Botha tallied two eagles in the event, ranked third in par-four scoring at four-under par and was five-under par on par-fives.
Toledo will return to action this weekend when it travels to Independence, Minn. for Minnesota's Gopher Invitational on Sunday-Monday, Sept. 11-12.
