TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team closed out its opening fall weekend with seven wins against DePaul and Chicago on the closing day of the Toledo Rocket Invite at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts on Saturday. The Rockets combined for a 17-4 record over the course of two days.

"I was really impressed by the team this weekend," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Even with a few key players out of the lineup, we managed to dominate in singles.  We've got to do some work in doubles, but we have plenty of time. 

The day opened with doubles competition with Shalini Tallamraju and partner Maddie Yergler from DePaul sweeping their court 6-0 for the win over Chicago. Mariona Perez and Laura Morera picked up a win for the Rockets, taking the middle court by a 6-2 decision.

Toledo closed with doubles and singles matchups vs. DePaul. The duo of Sloane Teske and Cassie Alcala won the doubles court for the Rockets by a 6-4 decision. Alcala, Teske, Tallamraju, and Perez all won their singles matchups in two sets. Morera lost her first set then won her second match to force a third set tiebreaker, but was ultimately defeated 11-9.

Overall for the tournament, Alcala and Teske each put up records of 5-1, while Morera, Perez, and Tallamraju each went 4-2.

Toledo will be off for a few weeks before sending a handful of players to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the ITA Regionals on Oct. 20-23.
